One thing I used once to "animate" something was that I set aside a big blank area on a form and made some text boxes. I made them with no border and transparent background, then loaded them with symbols from the Wingdings and/or Webdings fonts. Then I changed the positions of the text boxes as a way to simulate planetary movement orbiting around a central sun. The size of the symbol was adjusted through font sizing, and the size of the text boxes was adjusted proportionately to the fonts as well, using the fact that one POINT is 1/72 of an inch and one TWIP is 1/1440 of an inch. Of course, the symbol in question was centered within the text box. Perfect? No... but effective for the demonstration.
