It just occured to me that it might be fun to broadcast some of our CTAUG meetings. I will be the primary speaker this week and so I can set up a GTM that people can join and listen in. Participants will be limited to a max of 25 since that is all GTM supports. If this turns out to be popular, I'll look into using something else that supports more participants.

Given that this is going to be impromptu, I'm not sure how best to organize it. Rather than emailling folks, I will log in here about 15 minutes before we start and post the meeting ID. To use it, you would go to
www.JoinGoToMeeting.com and enter the ID when prompted. You can use headphones if you have them or dial in using the phone you will see once you join the meeting. Please mute yourself so I don't have you all talking in my head. There's enough noise there already:)

The meeting will start at 7PM EDT which is GMT -5:00 and run for about an hour. Since we haven't coordinated this, I won't be able to continue the meeting for the next speaker unless he can use my PC so I will shut it down when my part finishes.

GoTo Meeting Says:
To connect to an online meeting, enter the meeting ID provided by the meeting organizer.

Do you have an ID?

Ah! I see....

I'm falling asleep here so I'm off to bed...

Uncle, I really thought I mentioned the meeting would be Wednesday. As I read my post again I wasn't clear. Please accept my appology. It looks like a whole paragraph is missing including the link to the CTAUG website which gives the meeting information. I have no explanation for how I lost it but I owe you a beer and also anyone else who showed up.

Please try again Wednesday, the 10th.

No worries Pat, I was very tired last night so I probably wouldn't have lasted long.

Have you tried Google Hangouts?

CtAUG (Connecticut Access User Group).. I know Pat wanted to put the link, but forgot about it again.. LOL.. but here it is LightWave.. http://ctaug.org/

Interesting to watch and get an international audience for a local user group.

We have a local SQL server group here in Edinburgh which I attend but we're not quite up to livestreaming it yet

Good luck with that I think it will be an interesting experiment

The meeting is open now but we won't start the program until arount 7 PM EDT (GMT -5) Wednesday October 10th, 2012

1. Please join my meeting.

Thanks for inviting us to your presentation and user meeting. A lot of good ideas and code.
Hopefully you will have a link for mdb versions of the DataDicty and the instructional (dates/datediff/weekdays/etc) db.

I do agree with jdraw, the meeting was absolutely good, so much information. Specially with the Object backups, and relink DB. It would save a lot of time rather doing it manually. It would be really great and much appreciated if we could get links to the mdb. :) Thank you !!

Pat,

A few of us attended your last CTAUG meeting via GotToMeeting. We left some comments re the availability of some of the programs/database that you discussed and described. My understanding from your presentation was that some of this material would be available. I have visited the CTAUG (ctaug.org) site but did not see any links to materials.

Have I misunderstood, or are there links that have not yet been posted?

Thanks again for making the meeting available to us.

Hi jdraw and thanks for your interest. I was having audio troubles and couldn't hear the people on the line very well. I hope you could hear me. Sorry, I lost track of the thread and forgot to post the databases I demo'd. Here's the DataDictionary.

We're going to try again on November 14th. I'll open the meeting sometime between 6 and 6:30 EST which is around -5 GMT. It's pretty late for you folks across the pond but I hope you can join us. We're going to try to record the meetings also but they're pretty informal and they won't be interesting unless we can capture both the sound in the room and on the voice line so if anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them.

Thank you very much.
If you do hold other GoToMeeting sessions of your group, you will let us know.

This is a heads up for next Wednesday - November 14th. The following is the text of the email I sent to our president. I will post back with the link information in a couple of days.
I would like to do the GTM again. Does anyone have any idea how to handle the audio? I used a headset the last time. The participants could hear me although I had trouble hearing them but they couldn't hear the audience. A separate mic might solve that problem but I don't know. Perhaps I could stick with the headset and we setup someone in the front row with a directional mic to pick up audience comments. I will schedule the meeting sometime tomorrow or thursday and send the link to James. He can forward it to the membership.

If it is OK, I would like to finally do the demo of Azure. I signed up for a free 90 day trial and successfully created a database. Anyone who wants to try this out should come to the meeting with a laptop. I will have James send out the FE for the application I will create. You can then all sign on and see how it flys.

If we have time, I will also let one or more of you upsize your own application to my database. If you want to do this, you will need to come to the meeting prepared. If you don't have SSMA (the access upsizing tool), download it from the MS site. It seems to install the 64-bit version by default but unless you are running the 64-bit version of Office, we need the 32-bit version which is also installed. It just doesn't create a shortcut. If you have SQL Server Express installed (also free), you can attempt to upsize to that. If SSMA works for that, it will work for Azure. Or , bring your database on a thumb drive and I'll do it from my computer.

I will do my best to answer questions but Azure is new to me also and SSMA defeated me. I needed to call the Azure support team and they were the ones who worked out the 32/64 bit issue. Once that was resolved, it was still bumpy sailing but the tech stayed with me until we got it done.

Early warning for Wed Nov 14th. I will post the link with the phone number around 6PM EST and we will start the presentation around 7.

We had sound issues last month that we are still trying to work out so please be patient. The meetings are informal and although I will be wearing a headset so you should be able to hear me and I should be able to hear you, you may not hear the audience and they may not hear you so that's the problem we are trying to overcome.

The attached database has already been upsized by SSMA to the Azure database. In the meeting we will connect to it and test it. Although the database is an .mdb, you may need A2010 to work with the Azure BE.

Hi Pat.

I don’t know if this is important or not.

You seem to have gone to some trouble to convert your attachment to Access 2003 file format and it does compile without error.

In the tables, which I can’t link, there is a field called SSMA_TimeStamp with a data type as Binary. Access 2003 does not seem to understand the Binary field type and so might crash on that at runtime.

The field SSMA_TimeStamp does not appear to be used in VBA code but I don’t know if it is used in a query or by a bound control.

I know you said they might need Access 2010 but people might think that, since they can compile the FE without error in Access 2003, they might also be able to use Access 2003 during the presentation.

I can’t test it but maybe if Access 2003 can’t handle it then perhaps it could be up versioned so people can’t attempt to use that version.

Just thought I would mention it in case an error pops up during the presentation and disappoints some participants.

Good luck,
Chris.

Sorry I wasn't clear. You can't actually use the Azure linked tables until tonight when I give you the login credentials. The upsizing wizard adds the timestamp field to each table. It is used by the ODBC driver to determine if a record has been changed. Access doesn't use it at all.

This database started out as an .mdb and I didn't convert it for this demo. I just upsized it. From what I have read, versions of Access earlier than A2010 can't link to Azure so even if the database is an .mdb, you still need to open it with A2010 to work with it. If you have A2007, you could try since it uses ACE but I'm not sure it will work.

I haven't tested this on any computers except my own so I have a feeling many people will have trouble since they may not have the SQL Server Native Client 10.0 driver installed either.

What happened when you tried to open one of the linked tables? I would expect a password prompt since the credentials are not stored in the links.

Pat,

This sounds like a very interesting presentation. Have all of the seats been reserved yet?
