Auto bracketing in query criteria

Good morning All.
Could someone give me advice on query criteria please.
I'm want to retrieve the criteria from a subform.
Using the expression builder I got.

Forms![A_Sales]![A_SalesinvSubF]!Form![Stock number]

When this is entered into the criteria box square brackets are automaticly added to the the word Form so I get this.

[Forms]![A_Sales]![A_SalesinvSubF]![Form]![Stock number]

Also I'm unsure about the exclamation mark. Should this not be a full stop(period)?

I assume you are refering to this one: [A_SalesinvSubF]![Form]

I always use a period when refering to the form part of the subform.

Many thanks for your input CB. In my frustration I deleted everything and started again only to find my query worked perfectly. I have no idea what was wrong but it held me up for hours.
