I have a split DB with the BE on a server and the FE on each individual client machine. I understand that a locking file will be created when the FE is opened but I have a couple of machines that are craeting a BE locking file which means of course that no-one else can use the DB. As soon as the close the DB the file is deleted and others can get in. I have checked the sharing etc and all computers are set up in the same way. In fact the FE is simply a copy of the master. Has anyone any ideas what I am doing wrong. This is a real pain as it means that when certain users are on the DB others have to wait until they have finished what they are doig. HELP:confused:

In your DB window click on Tools, Options, Advanced,
in "Default open mode" select "Shared",
"Default record locking" as you want.

Thanks for the reply. I have already checked this and all of the local machiens are set up with:
Default Open Mode - Shared
Defauly Record Locking - Edited record
and Open Databases by Using Record Level Locking is checked.

Unfortunately some of the PC's are still generating a BE locking file.
Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Try this: Put all rights on Server/directory for all users.

I presume you mean granting full server permissions for this folder. I have just checked and, although the folder had full permissions for everyone not everything in it did - strange. I have just inherited the folder permission across all of the content and subfolders so I'll monitor it and see if it makes a difference. get back to you if it doesn't. Thanx for your help.
Tony:rolleyes:

Hi - Well changing the server permissions has made no difference. Whenever someone accesses the BE of the DB a locking file is generated blocking everyone else from using it. This is getting quite serious now as input is slowed to one user at a time. Have even tried setting the default file locking option to NO LOCKS bt this still makes no difference.
HELP!!!
