Bar Code and Access

We have been using Dell Axim PDA's to collect our time out in the field which downloads to an Access db. I now want to get a wireless scanner and use barcodes for the employees id's; has anyone any suggestions for a)barcode software b)scanner. Thanks a million.

why bother with the advent of QR codes? they're smaller than barcodes, and any iDevice or android device can act as a scanner.
