Barcode not scanning in properly

Hello,

I found a shareware code 39 extended symbology (with all ascii characters) and was able to print out some barcodes from my database after I loaded the font. I used the *text* format to allow the reader to identify the beginning and end of the barcode with the *. A case number in the format of AA99-99999 and a name in the form of Smith, J both are formatted in the barcode font. They appearred to print ok but when I attempted to read the printed barcodes, the reader successfully read the case number in every instance but it failed to properly read in the names, putting plus signs between each letter and turning the comma into a slash.

Since the case number read just fine without plus signs in front of the alpha characters, this is really puzzling. The reader was an intermec for code 39.

Any ideas why this might occur?

i suspect you scanner is not set-up to handle code39 extanded.

try changing Smith,J to SMITH,J and see if it will scan.
