I just came up with another idea. Bump your thread for a dollar! It could help me fund the site. I'm kinda joking about this, but at the same time wonder if it has merit. Some people don't get enough replies, or not quite yet happy with their answers. By bribing the site owner, they could get their wish! Could have a problem if the top 10 thread slots are taken by everybody just trying to get site exposure for their links or whatever, and they bump forever. Maybe bump #1 costs $1, then the rest follow a Fibonacci sequence. Twelve bumps in I get $144!! :D

I'm kinda kidding around with the idea, but the paid sticky thread idea is something I have thought about, and it probably horrifies people here! But if you think about it, I have nuked nearly all the stickies anyway, so the interference a paid sticky would cause will be far less than what the previous site had anyway. Maybe I could even suppress the visibility of them for all logged in members. Now thats an idea!

Ideal world I don't like the idea. Ideal world I don't like the idea of any ads. Real world, needs must. 🤷‍♂️

Suppressing the visibility of them would seem to defeat the purpose. Logged in users are the ones that would be answering the question, so they're the target market.

I was referring to paid sticky threads, rather than bumped threads by people who need an answer. A paid sticky thread could for example be a programmer offering paid Access consultancy. Only the guests would see that.

re post #5 - am a I programmer asking for someone to help them? And only people not logged in would see me? or am I a programmer looking for work - and only people not logged would see me?

I did have an idea about having a collaboration forum for invited users - idea being to collaborate on developing 'proper' templates or tools for access/excel which are then offered as stickies on another 'templates' forum which users could then pay for. Would need an agreed process for development, version control etc. And perhaps developers should get a share of the proceeds ;)

There are all sorts of creative things that can be done. Just thrashing around with some ideas here, but who knows what might happen. I've considered a resources section where you could display commercial wares. Might require a fee!

As an example, the paid sticky would not be seen by logged in members. So, guests see it. A sticky might be: "Get paid Access help here. Uncle has all the answers!" Then, if a guest thinks that while forum help is great, but they want a bit more one-to-one assistance on the phone, they can hire Uncle. Uncle gets his pimped wheels and the guest gets the personal assistance they prefer.

Slightly off topic but is it possible to resurrect the unanswered threads feature?
Also could the similar threads feature be restored? It was VERY useful.

You got your Similar Threads back. I have restricted it to 3 results for performance reasons. Not sure if I should nuke it for guests and just keep for logged in users.

It's still there, under the Find Threads dropdown.
