Good Evening,

I have a field in excel that's a 1, 0 or blank " " I'll call the field "Paid". Is it better sense you make the blanks a 0 and add an additional field called BlankPaid ? Or is it better to make it a 1 character field and be done with it ?

Example data

Paid
1
0
' '

Should I make it
Paid
'1'
'0'
' '

OR

Paid BlankPaid
1 0
0 0
0 1

Thanks,
Mike

Hi there,

Not quite sure what you are trying to achive really. In logic you have a 1 or 0 which transpires to true or false. It would not be logical to create a seperate field to count as a blank. You have three types of data:

0 - false (populated)
1 - True (populated)
Null - unpopulated

In excel you can write if statements to take the 'null' into account without the need for a seperate field.

Finally not quite sure why you are asking an excel question in an access forum :)
