Cannot calculate percentages

Hello all,

Ive been reading this forum for a few weeks now, its been very helpful.

For some reason however, I cannot calculate percentages.
In a footer, I have an aggregate text field Sum([total_sqft]) and a text field called [current_sqft]

If I set my "Total" textbox to either of these, I see their values, however if I set the expression to:

=[current_sqft]/Sum([total_sqft])

I always get 1.00% or 1



I am stumped!

Double check to be sure the fields are formatted as number and not text.
