All of the sudden I get an error message when I try to open my database from a file rather than through Access. If I open Access first and open the file that way, there is no problem but if I click on it from Windows Explorer, I get the error.

See picture.

Try going to Control Panel \ Programs \ select MS Office and do a repair on it.

Doing so with Office Pro 2010 successfully repaired a workstation with corrupted MDAC installation.

I tried this. It said it repaired the program but it didn't work still getting same error message:(

Any other ideas? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall Access? FYI: it is 2007 and it is a separate install from the MS Office Suite using a standalone copy. Our office does not get Access bundled in with the others by default. Been using this for months with no problems. This happened all of the sudden.

So you ran the repair on MS Access since it is separate from the rest of Office?

Yes, that's correct. Your message made me laugh though so thanks:)

I am going to uninstall and reinstall.

I have been using this installation since I got a new computer in April 2013. The only thing that has changed recently is windows installed updates a couple of days ago. These updates changed the appearance of my Access icons so Access must have been affected. I am thinking this may be related.

I uninstalled and reinstalled. Not surprisingly, this solved the problem but I am still wondering why this happened in the first place.

I even went into the program files and replaced the existing msain.dll file with my coworker's working file and even this did not work. Only the reinstall worked.

Thanks for your help!

You are most welcome, EternalMyrtle. I am please the problem has been successfully resolved.

Before re-install and repair, did you try to do a "standard" reboot? (default windows solution)
