cell referencing

Hi everyone here is my problem

I have 2 sheets in my excel file and I want to have a cell on sheet 2 equal a cell on sheet 1. I have done this several times before and I have limited success. Here is what I am getting

On one column I am able to "copy" the information over with the following formula ='sheet 1'!B41 and it works just fine, however whenever I try to do it with another column on the same sheet all it does is spit back the formula I type in ex. ='sheet 1'!C49

I am wanting to reference a range of cells in sheet 1 to be on sheet 2. This has me stumped. I have done this several times in 2007 but now I'm on 2010. I don't think it has anything to do with it and all the cells are of equal size and equal format, dates, general, time etc. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.​

I see that this post starts with SOLVED but just in case it isn't solved, you might want to check that the Cell you're pasting into isn't in Text format. Pasting a Formula in a Text cell will display the Formula rather than the result. Hth
