Checkbox ticked before proceeding to next record

I'm sure this has already been covered somewhere on this form...how do you make a user tick a checkbox before proceeding to the next record on the form.

If it has to be ticked, make it a default

I can see a defaultvalue in properties of the checkbox, do I have to plug something in here?
