I am developing an Access 2007 front end with a SQL Server 2008 r2 back end. I have the database engineered and close to completion. This is for a law firm in a major metro area. One of the business rules for the development is that no information is ever deleted. File stream is also being implemented to track many legal documents. It was requested that Referential Integrity checks be developed and run on a regular basis. I am well experienced with Access but new with SQL Server.
As I start my research on this I am seeing references to DBCC CheckDB and other related checks. Most discussions just jump into the deep end and are very detailed. I need an overview of these topics from the 20,000 ft level, an introduction if you will. I think some of the Integrity checks are already built in to SQL Server and there is no sense to reinventing the wheel. I am also seeing software packages that handle integrity checks.
Can anyone point me in a direction or refer me to an overview.
Thanks, Fred
