Combobox won't auto-search when multiple periods are in entry

I'm having trouble finding an entry anywhere about this, although I'm sure I'm not the first person to come across it...

When I am typing my entry into a combobox it begins to autosearch, highlighting the part of the entry that it finds that matches the beginning that I typed in (as a normal combobox does in access).

However, when the entry it finds has multiple periods in it (i.e.: S.T.A.R) it stops searching and does not highlight the remainder of the entry it moved to. I'm not sure that searching is the correct term, which may be why I can't find any information on this, but is there a way to correct this problem?

I'm afraid to find out what it might have been. PM me with it if you aren't too embarassed. :)

If I remove the non-standard characters it would change the official name of the sites which are my entries, so that's out of the question (but it is a good idea, so thank you for posting it).

I've looking on MSDN a number of times in different places and I can't find any article which refers to limitations or parameters in the auto-search (which is not the right term to be using here) feature of combo boxes. It also strikes me as strange that this does not occur when only one period is present (such as St. Peter or Ave., etc) but does when multiple ones are present.

I've tried removing the code behind the combo box thinking that maybe I typed somethign in wrong, but that didn't solve the problem either.
