Compacting automatically

I have a Microsoft Access 97 database in a multi user environment.

I have FMS and it works well as a compact facility - really good in fact, although I want to know whether there is a way to compact the database when the first person opens the database or when the last person leaves the database.

Compact via event scheduler does not work for me as login and password issues on XP.

Isn't there a compact on close option in A97? There is in A2k, but I can't now remember for A97.
