Comparing Records (Audit)

I would like to establish if a record has been amended.

I cannot use the dirty function in a form for other reasons nor can I create query that compares each like for like field against each other. This is too complex and sometimes the query does not run.

Has anyone got any suggestions on how I lookup or record if and what information has been changed in a record?

Possibly someone else will come up with a better solution but I was looking into something to track who added notes/amendments etc and what I ended up doing was first returning the user id of the logged in user then tracking the id of who amended the record then the date. I hope this may be of some help to you.
