This is very strange. I have converted two computers from 2003 to 2007. I have also installed 5 2007's on to new computers. All of these are Professional XP sp2 setups. I copied over a database to woek on those computers. Originally the performance was very good, on all of the computers (but not the lowest specified converted laptop ) exitting from a form containing a subform takes 37 seconds. The word Calculating... is on the status bar. The laptop takes 3 seconds par with what it used to do.

I have transferred the 'Data' database, the 'Apps' database, Utility.mda and another .MDA. I have also transferred all the Reference executables to one of the other computers. This has not made a jot of improvement.

Has anyone any pointers. I have exhausted all the resources trying to find a solution to this one.

So what is Microsoft going to do about the service Computer Browser ?

Well, that was interesting, not ! It appears the reason is the service Computer Browser seems to clash with the resize event. Once disabled the database is certainly slower that that it was in 2003, but I guess it now needs a another visit to Silicon 'R us.

I trust that Microsoft will fix this bug. Perhaps SP1 would be a kind option. Also perhaps a warning for us poor developers cought between a rock and a cleft stick and possibly a very hard place. As we tend to get paid on results. Maybe that would be an interesting option for certain Software Publishers.

Happy Christmas !

Lulled into a false sense of security

Well after a night of untroubled sleep, comforted in the knowledge that it was all working, I turned on the computer and even though the Computer Browser service was disabled, it was back to its slow high cpu state.

Another 5 hours later going over all my changes, and yes, I tried safe booting with and without network connections. It was as bad as ever.

Clients have to earn money as do I -- so its goodbye Access 2007 for now, and return to Access 2003. It runs as sweet as a nut.

Please SP1, or maybe no-one is testing this on a real database?

Being an ancient programmer I remember the Win3.0, Win95 and Win98 prior to SP2 debacles. Going back to heavy meditation, reducing my blood pressure.......
