counting records or statistics

Hi, I'm making a statistics page for a student database. It will hold information such as the amount of applicants, amount accepted, how many obtained first class degrees, etc, etc.
I'd like to know how you can count these occurances and display them in a report please.

The report Wizard will do most of this for you, try that first and see how it handles Count, etc

thats what i thought. But guess what? access 97 in the dept hasnt got the wizards installed! Do they have the cd? Do they $%^&!!! Whats the other way of doing it?
