custom long dates

Is there a way to customize the long date format, so the results display Sunday Jan. 20, 19xx? (abbrv the month) or abbreviate both the day i.e. Sun. Jan. 20, 19xx

I don't really understand the 19xx part, but the general format you want would be

Format(Date,"dddd mmm. dd, yyyy")

will yield

Monday Dec. 08, 2008

for today's date.

If you really want go to town on it then you can use the Day, Month, MonthName and Year fucntions.

Each of those gives each component as a result. For MonthName you can also choose to show only the first three letters.

So you could turn 30/3/1948 into

Mar the 30th 19You are too old
