Data Type errors on import: Currency US$

I am imported data from Excel into a new table.

Firstly I get a data type error

Type Conversion Error, Field F6 row 24
Type Conversion Error, Field F7 row 24
Type Conversion Error, Field F6 row 25

Then in the design view I cannot get Access to display the currency symbol "$" before a number, in the field properties I can only chose £ or Euro. Why is this? note I am based in the UK.
