Have a database being used in a multiuser on evironment that, on occasion, is placed into an 'unusable' state and requires kicking all the users out and repairing it.

Wonder if some error handling might prevent this from happening.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks

You can compact and repair database on close.

Try going to Tools, General Tab and check Compact on close.

So really don't have to worry about kicking anybody out.

Compact & repair works wonders, but keep in mind your database will be unuseable if one person has Forms open in Design View, and then someone else tries to open the same DB. Access will not allow you to change the layout/structure of Forms when someone else is using the database.

Also, if the database is closed incorrectly, sometimes an extra *.ldb file might be floating around. (It looks like a database, has the same name as your database, but has a little lock on it.) This can cause opening problems as well. Thankfully, if you're sure everyone is out of the database, you can delete these rogue *.ldb files.
