So I've created a form that has a "search" area at the top but if I change from Form View to Datasheet view this goes away. Is there anyway to keep this area so that the Datasheet view can be searched just as easily as the Form View?

Nope - no headers or footers will display in datasheet view. What you CAN do is to format the items in Continuous view to LOOK like it is in Datasheet view. Then you CAN use your header.

Are you looking at the Access 2007 templates? Contacts or Assets templates for example? I'm pretty sure they way they do it is to create a split form with the individual detail size set to 0.00" height. I haven't actually tried making one myself, but it drove me crazy until I figured out what was going on. Hope this helps.

I generally go with Bob's suggestion, but you can also add a continuous form as a sub-form and put the search controls in the main form.
