I have an Excel spreadsheet that is 30 sheets that tracks sales and performance numbers for employees with charts, etc. and it is getting too big for me to handle so I am switching to Access--but I am an idiot on Access and this little round head can't visualize very well. Basically three groups of information: Forecast for the month/year; daily tracking; and monthly/annual numbers. The performance numbers may be in currency, numbers of units, sales per customer, etc. Unless I am in a fog, I can't find a sample database that fits. My thoughts were three tables:

EmplTable--salespeople

Categories (like CP Sales, W Sales, # of repair orders, # of menu packages sold, etc.)

Numbers--actual numbers that each salesperson did in each month/day/year

Should I or could I include MOnths/Year table to make it easier to enter data every month? Any samples that y'all might know of? Then I get to the relationship part--yowza--hurts my head.

Thanks for any suggestions. I have searched the forums, and any sample databases don't fit--wait, I mean I don't think they fit what I am looking for when actually they may fit and I just can't see it.

Make your company pay for your schooling for access.

I'm outta here, close this thread please.

Was it something I said?

Honestly, no one is going to build something that complex for you, when you don't know a thing about access.

Start simple, learn about it first, then start making complex databases.

Its like you are trying to drive a Semi without ever having driven before.

I do sales reports that track sales on certain line codes for certain criteria at my job, but its specific for how my mainframe holds information and such, you can't just copy it and have it work.

I wasn't looking for somebody to build me a complete database--I asked if I should include a Months/year table, was my thoughts on the setup going in the right direction, and did any of the sample databases fit what I am looking for (I understand that I would need to customize for my own application). I have found a number of sample databases, maybe I didn't explain myself well enough, but the Northwinds, video inventory, etc. didn't appear to go where I wanted it to go--is there a database out there (generic) that is designed (generically) to track sales and performance numbers?

And when I said I was an idiot on Access, didn't mean I don't know anything about Access--but I think flat file because of my Excel leanings and I the initial set-up is so important, I felt that I could get guidance here. Comparatively speaking to most of the contributors here, I am an idiot on Access, but I was also that way on Excel and the forums enabled me to improve and able to write code (albeit with a struggle). Lots of people willing to help--the time and effort they put into helping others has always suprised and pleased me. I hope one of these days, I can help others on those forums...
