You have always seemed to me like you have a serious disdain for Americans in general. I'm not saying anything about you my friend, I'm just saying that that's what it's always seemed like based on all of your comments I've ever read.
When you're not pestering Doc you almost seem like a normie.

I actually like Americans, I think they're funny. Us Brits look on yanks as a joke. But, I've met quite a few yanks, and they are polite and decent sort of people, a bit loud perhaps, but so are some English people, Americans wear strange Hawaiian shirts, but are basically sound.
I only say provocative things here just to inject a bit of spice, there's no malice intended, it's just a bit of fun based on what we see on TV or read about Americans. We do the same here in the UK about each other, the north don't like us southerners and the southerners make fun of northerners with their outside toilets and incomprehensible accents. Nobody likes the Scottish much, and the Welsh are wierd.
One day, I would like to visit the USA, but not with 48c heat.

48° c heat is definitely out of the norm Collin
I lived in Australia for 3 years and we had heat of 43c, that was bad enough to work in, and we didn't have air-con in the office or at home.
Here in the UK, if we get to 30c we think we're going to die !

with humidity that sounds very difficult.

a brother of mine lives in portland OR area, they had 112 a week or two ago. i told him hey, even though we have 115 regularly throughout the summer........i've never even known what 112 + 50% humidity is like, so bravo - that was much worse than anything AZ experiences.

P.S. can be humid, I think it's the watering of the golf courses, everything is green there.

Mick Mulvaney, the former Director of the Office of Management and Budget under Trump, made a couple of points today furthering the theme of this thread. Maybe he read my post?

I doubt it. Anyway he stated (paraphrased):
  • Democrats are superbly superior at messaging when compared to Republicans. Which makes it "easy" for them to "sell" their proposals to the (gullible) public
  • Democrats have a vision of how they wish to "transform" the US. They will knowingly take short-term "defeats" in political control of the US knowing that the next time they are in political power, they can simply continue.
Mulvaney used the passage of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) as his example of this process. He contended that the Democrats knew that passing this legislation would result in them subsequently losing control of the political process and they did it anyway. Unstated by Mulvaney, once the Republicans assumed control of the political process, they choked (as usual) and failed to fully repeal the Affordable Care Act. The Biden administration is now back-on-the-road to further embellish this (oppressive) legislation in support of the Democratic vision/transformation of the US.

Mulvaney, in the short-time, that he had to speak did not get into a variety of other issues that the Democrats are currently implementing to transform the US, and which the Republican will probably never repeal, should Republicans assume control of the political process in the future. This will leave Democrats, in the future, with a baseline from which to continue their (degrading) transformation (assault on US values) of the US.

  • Illegal immigration: Should the Republicans assume political control, they may well minimize illegal immigration, but they never will deport those here illegally, Consequently, the Democrats will have new massive group of people who they expect to vote for them. That may help the Democrats in the future to achieve political control of the US once again. Maybe even permanently.
  • Voting: Democrats have opened the door for very "liberal" interpretations of who, the time, and place of voting. They also seem to have achieved hysterical fanaticism that any attempts by Republicans to assure election integrity somehow constitute "voter suppression". Current targets of Democratic Party vitriol are Georgia, Arizona, and Texas. Republicans, have only made half-hearted uninspired attempts to push-back at the Democrats. Unfortunately, this means that the Democrats will have achieved improperly tilting future elections in their favor.
  • Economy: Democrats have been pushing for raising the minimum wage as one economic proposal. Democrats are in the process of accomplishing raising the minim wage through a bait-and-switch strategy. The Democrats are flooding the economy with money through stimulus check and extended unemployment benefits. When these supposedly "temporary" programs end, the gullible drug-addicted public will demand "where is my money? I can't live without it." The long-game, Democrats will get both an increase in the minimum wage and the "universal basic income". The useless Republican response. "We couldn't stop it."

You made some good points.

When it comes to messaging, I think it depends on the case. Fortunately for Republicans, every once in a while, Democrats just "hand" them something. From what I have seen, I believe it's because Democrats often overplay their hand. After last summer, they had a pretty good thing going with the "everything is racist" mantra. But they pushed it too far, to the point of ridiculousness. People are now revolting.
Their "defund the police" was obviously flawed from the start, but my point is, it had wings for a while. But they took it too far - as if police are bad, CBP is bad, ICE is bad, even Secret Service are bad, National Guard is bad, and Bail is bad. Enter a massive, country-wide Crime Wave (like has happened every time reactive policing has been chosen over proactive policing, never forget Rudy and NYC), and suddenly this is all backfiring on them.

Of course Republicans always knew not to blame everybody else for criminals' behavior. But the Democrats got away with their nonsense for a while - until actual human beings felt actually physically threatened. Take an extreme analogy, if someone kidnaps a room full of hostages with a gun to their head. Suddenly everyone in that room totally agrees on all the basics. Safety is universal.

Also, Democrats don't play fair - they play on people's worse instincts of human nature: Laziness and blaming others for your own failures. It's a very attractive platform, because the #1 hardest character trait in the history of all time is: Being honest with yourself. If you approach anyone (or group) in their comparative failures and offer them the chance to officially blame others for it, most people will find that offer too tempting to resist..

Now this thing in Cuba is serving to REMIND all Americans how truly immoral and grotesque is the liberals not-so-secret admiration of socialism and of historical figures in communism. Sometimes you just get lucky : )

Final note. I believe right now Democrats are panicking. They see their nonsensical platforms dissolving like sand in high tide before their eyes. With COVID receding into the background of history, (despite CNN's best efforts at "Delta, Delta, Delta").........Democrats KNOW full well that if Republicans get elected just ONE more time, their policies just may make most of the country so happy and generally well that no one will see a need to bother with all of these liberal theories ever again. As Trump so profoundly pointed out, people who are doing well tend to get a long., just like we all got along before last year when Democrats invented this idea that we were all involved in a huge, secret, racial war of some kind.

The recent walkout by Democratic legislatures in Texas has pointed a spotlight at Democratic Party hypocrisy. The Democrats have claimed that they need to end the Senate filibuster as the Republicans are using it to obstruct the ability of Democrats to get their legislation passed.
In Texas, the Republicans control the State legislator and have proposed a new voting law. Rather than work with Republicans, the Democrats in the Texas legislature have walked-out to purposely obstruct the democratic process by preventing the ability of the Republicans to conduct legislative business. This action is another legislative technique similar to using the "filibuster" to prevent the other party from following the democratic process to implement its legislative proposals. So we have the Democrats saying on one hand that Republicans are despicable for using one technique, while they essentially use an equivalent technique to obstruct the democratic process.

Unbelievably, Democrats contend that what they did in Texas was standing-up for the democratic process. Yet they sabotage the democratic process to prevent Republicans from passing legislation. Hypocrites.

Yeah this thing in TX is super-interesting and kind of fun to watch. I can see it going either way. Media videos of these morons actually being arrested might be another touchy feely score point for the Democrats, like they are some kind of martyr for taking their undeserved vacation (paid for by fundraising, mind you, half a million raised so far, I believe they'll be quite comfortable!)

On the other hand, if TX has an emergency (again) and their presence is needed, then their hands might be forced.

One thing is sure - that quorum rule needs another review. That's a little too easy.

Remember, though ... state legislators are not necessarily real professional experts in their craft. Often they're just local businessman, maybe a pastor here, a car dealer owner there, a real estate developer or just a soccer-mom-realtor type........I know in Arizona (and yes, this applies to both parties), they're quite pedestrian in nature sometimes, and not always the sharpest tool in the shed.

The Republicans in Congress are feckless pieces of dog do do. They are the reason we are in this pickle. They preferred to have Biden elected than a second Trump term. They preferred to have an election stolen rather than Trump as president.

Mick Mulvaney, this past week made an interesting comment on the Democrats playing the long-game that may seem counter intuitive on first-blush. In response to a question on the very likely possibility that the Republicans will sweep the 2022 elections, his response is that the Democrats really don't care.

The reason, Democrats know that the Republicans will never overturn Democratic "accomplishments". He cited how the Democrats pushed the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) knowing that they would subsequently lose, but also planning on the Republicans not being able to undo that legislation. Which is what happened. Mulvaney then went on to say that the Democrats won't care if they lose in 2022 as a consequence of their actions since the Republicans won't have the guts to rescind what the Democrats passed. Since the Republicans won't rescind Democratic progressive legislation, the Demcorats, in the long-game, will eventually get their way.

A Republican sweep in 2022 is never happening. The Democrats proved they would win a Presidential election. The Midterms will be more of a problem because they'll have to either take more people not the fold or they'll have to manipulate the data as it is transmitted. This is actually fairly easy because there are NO controls in place that verify the count that was sent from the polling site was the count received at the state headquarters. You can get between the tabulating machines and the aggregating machine at the polling site and you can get between the polling sites and the reporting consolidation site. The only way to find the fraud would be to actually count the ballots by hand. And the Republicans don't care. I have contacted many Republicans in Connecticut and they just don't seem to think that election fraud is an issue anywhere. It probably isn't rampant in Connecticut since we have four totally blue cities that overwhelm the rest of the population. But, I've learned enough about the actual practices followed to know that it would be possible to manipulate the votes.
