Good Morning

I have been working on a Sales Database for my boss now for well, way to long! I think I am finally getting to the stages where it is ready to be used (YEY!)

I would really appreciate some tips / advice on how to successfully deploy my database across our network so it can be used by multiple people at the same time.

We only have one full version of Access (on my PC) so the other users are going to be having the runtime version.

1) Can any please point me in the direction of somewhere I can find help on using the runtime version - for example I am finding some of the settings I have put in place on my PC are not working on the runtime version (e.g. the ribbon is different and it will not allow the user to right click onto a shortcut menu, for example to use the copy / paste / filter options).

2) Please could someone tell me whether the options I choose on my PC will carry through to all or whether those settings need to be done on each individuals machine...

3) Could anyone give advice on the best way to approach record locking techniques to avoid to people being in the same record at he same time.

4) I have been reading up on how to split my database - does anyone have any experience on how this is also best done.

Many Thanks :)

You can split the database in Database tools. Microsoft have provided great help by step by step instructions. Just remember to first make a back up of db because once split, reversal almost impossible (not sure).

Steps may be:

After split, hide navigation pane from Access options>Current database. Also, ensure that you have some start up form or switch board set.

Once done, before distributing, make ACCDE file from Database Tools. This ACCDE can now be distributed. Rename ACCDE to ACCDR and distribute, read more posts in this forum by Pat Hartman and others.

I have been using access run time and feel it is good experience. You need to install access run time once on the PC where no access installed. In run time you may not see some features so you have to take care before distributing & making some alternative arrangements so users can use with out difficulty.
