Can someone tell me what is the difference if I write $E$6 or E$6?
Thank You.

What ever the $ is in front of is "fixed" while copying the formula...
so $E$6 wont ever change, while E$6 will have the column change if you copy the formula accross columns, while the row (6) is fixed...

Hope that is clear enough?

Yes. Now I've stumbled across another example where there is only one $ sign in from of the cell letter, $E6 for example. What does this do?

Thank You.

Hi,

E6: address is relative
$E$6: address is absolute
$E6: Column E is fixed
E$6: Row 6 is fixed

You´ll see the dfifference if you copy the formulas to different rows and/or columns. ;)

Ciao,
Holger
