I know MS did it in the northwind thing but could someone help me with this as i dont get ohw they did it i am just a simple sailer you see.

i want to have a form open the the first time a DB is run so the users can enter location info (ship name actuallly) and then open every other time with the form that is the switchboard ??

can i set up some yes no tick box to do this ?

or would it simply be easier to add a configuration link to the switchboard (i dont want to do this as they will be exporting the data and i dont wan them using somone elses name)

Access comes with some sample databases and one of them is called Order Entry. Have Access create this db for you and then follow the instructions to add data to the My Company form. You only need to add one item. No open the form Switchboard in design view and look at the code in the On Open event. There is the answer to your question. Also, in the Database window you will notice that the Display Form/Page is set to the Switchboard.

Good luck with your project.

Question on the code

I can see and understand most of what this code is for but could someone explain what this bit is for ?

quote
' Move to the switchboard page that is marked as the default.
Me.Filter = "[ItemNumber] = 0 AND [Argument] = 'Default' "
Me.FilterOn = True
unquote

it comes directly after the new record section
thanks

This has to do with the Switchboard so that it opens to the correct 'page' if there are multiple 'pages'. I do not use the switchboard that comes with Access as it is limited and limiting. You are welcome to use it, but if your are going to be creating databases I would suggest you consider using forms and command buttons for your menu system rather than the switchboard. Just a personal opinion on the switchboard....

hth,
