I have a report with a list of departments that has not been grouped or sorted. It is based on a query with no sorting. However, when the report is produced the department listing is alphabetized. How can I produce a report and have the departments listed in the order of the fields on the table? Someone created this database with a table called depts and each dept is a different field. Thank you in advance.

Hi Mura,

***edited - just reread your post more carefully - you can ignore this paragraph but the next may still be of some use ***open your report in design view and click on the Sorting/grouping button at the top of your screen - the department is most likely listed there with Ascending specified for the sort order! It may not be as easy as removing that entry though as that will get rid of any grouping.

You may want to look into ranking your departments. That way, the report will sort on the rank first and then by department (which won't make a difference).

Hope that helps!

mura,

Could you post your table structure?

It sounds like the original design is going to make things
difficult for you.

Table structure -- fields run something like this:

Table name = Departments
Table fields (not in alpha order):
Pension
Human_Resources
President
Meetings
Health
IT

Data type -- all text

Hope this answers the question.

mura,

Let's assume that you have thirteen departments.

Table name = Departments
Has 13 records of one field OR
Has 1 record with 13 fields.

Table fields (not in alpha order):
Pension
Human_Resources
President
Meetings
Health
IT
Would assume that this is a one-record table with each
record corresponding to a department and containing some
text.

I really don't understand this, need more info.

It would be one record with 13 fields. Thanks.

mura,

The table fields has only one record?
What is in each field?

This is a one-record report?

more info ...

I will retrieve the database tomorrow and post more details. Thanks.
