Hi,

I am creating a database and need to produce a report that will form an itemised quotation.

There can be up to 8 items on the quotation along with their associated costs to the customer. I am trying to make the "item" field dynamically expand if necessary when longer text is entered into it and then expand the corresponding "Totals" fields to match the new size.

I have tried using the "Can Grow" property however for some reason the formatting does not cascade down to the fields below and the "Totals" fields remain the same size.

To try and explain better I have included a screen shot of the relevant part of the report and how it looks when printed. I should point out that the "QuotesQuote" box at the top of the screen is set to "Can Grow" and when that expands the boxes below automatically move to accommodate this.

Thanks in advance for your help

All your data come from one record right? If so, that is not correct, and will keep biting your derrière forever after. Structure your data properly: instead of ennumerated fields simply a table holding ItemID, ItemName, Materials, Labour, SomeTotal. Then your problems will dissipate.

As to this specific case? Can grow is hypersensitive to vertically touching/overlapping fields.

Hi spikepl,

Thanks for your help. I'm very much a noob when it comes to creating databases. I'm not sure if I have misunderstood your guidance about structuring the data but "Quotes" is a separate table as over time one customer will receive numerous quotes each with its own unique reference number.

Each item on the quote is in text form and describes the work to be carried out that specific job. Unfortunately no two jobs are the same so I cannot use pre-filled descriptions. Each item has to be itemised in detail with its costings broken down hence the reason for "Item1", "Item2" etc as these items and costs are only relevant to that specific quote I'm not too sure how I could incorporate that into a more simple form.

Thanks for the note about touching / overlapping fields. By leaving a very small space between each box vertically, the item fields are now resizing as I would like them to however the cost boxes ("Materials", "Labour" an "Total" remain their standard size. Is there any way to automatically resize these too?

Thanks
