"Error" reported

I have a memo field which seems to work well apart from the following problem. Occasionally, for no readily apparent reason, it allows you to enter text in the memo box and then gives the report of #Error thereby wiping out all your entries. Once it has done this you cannot delete the error code and it will not allow you to save the record. The only way to get around it seems to be to delete the record concerned and retype it all in. This is obviously not ideal and also means wasted time when filling the memo field several times. Any help would be appreciated, but please keep it easy to understand, as I am not very hot on the technical language of databases.

Check that the DBF is opening in Exclusive mode and that there are no record locking set. To check these goto tools/options/advanced

Thanks for your suggestions. If the DBF opens in Exclusive mode does this mean that only one person can be in the database at a time? Or have I misunderstood? Thanks for your help.
