Hi, I am fairly new to Excel and need a crash coarse in grouping and counting.

I need to know how to sort data by grouping dates, like colors and count how many of eac color happens for that date. I need this info on a seperate line below the data. Aso, the data is updated every hour so its ever changing.

Here is an example of the data.

10/1/2010 white
10/1/2010 red
10/1/2010 blue
10/1/2010 white
10/1/2010 blue
10/2/2010 white
10/2/2010 red
10/2/2010 green
10/2/2010 yellow
10/2/2010 red
10/3/2010 white
10/3/2010 blue
10/3/2010 green
10/3/2010 purple
10/3/2010 red
10/3/2010 orange
10/4/2010 blue

Example of what I need:
10/1/2010 white 2
10/1/2010 red 1
10/1/2010 blue 2
10/2/2010 white 1
10/2/2010 red 2
... and so on.

thanks

A Pivot table is the right way to go you would add the date field in the row section and the colour field in the value and which should auto default to a count, you can either refresh the pivot table when needed or set it to refresh at an interval. You could even add a bar chat for visual data it is often easier for a user to condense.
