Hi,

Is there a way on Access that when a total is calculated using an expression on a form that it could update the table itself with that total?

Thanks for any help!

Hi -

Yes, certainly it is possible, but it begs a number of other questions...

1) Where (and why) would you store the total in the table? For example, suppose you have a table of salespeople and their individual sales figures. The total is a useful figure, but it is really a characteristic of the whole table, rather than an individual record.

2) What does a stored total mean? If any of the underlying data changes, then the total changes as well.

Thus the usual approach in Access is to leave calculated fields as just that - calculated. The total is usually displayed on a form or report, which also gives it the context.
