extra space in pdf report

i have access report which i export to pdf file. On the pdf file there is an extra space in a word. for example, the word 'efficient' is displayed as
'ef ficient'. the word appears fine (without extra space) when i view the report in design mode, but when export to pdf the extra space occurs. the report is linked to a rtf subreport. in the rtf subreport, the word is spelled correctly without this phantom extra space.
