field default required

I am currently running a query to open a form. This query uses a HIN #(primary key) to find the clients record but if the client is new it defaults to a blank form for data entry. What I want to occur when this happens is the HIN field fills in with the number that was used in the query. I have no idea. Thanks for your time.
