Field "XXXX" cannot be a zero-length string

Why do I get the message "Field "XXXX" cannot be a zero-length string"? I have the table validation set up so the field is not required and the same on the form.

Any help is appreciated.

Make sure that the field in the table hasn't got 'Required Yes' in the General properties
