Question Finger print integration!

A church asked me to integrate my ms access church management software with fingerprint recognition.
The finger scanner is to be placed at the entrance and members will pass via it. After a scan, the details should be matched and updated
into the system that the member is present.
I do not know how to integrate the two, but the fact that I am a programmer, I believe I will make it but with leads in the right direction.
I wish to ask if the access system is sufficient or I need a web based system.
I also want to know if there has to be a wireless network, and if the scanner can be in a different position from the computer bearing the
system, or if they should be close together.
Is the scanner a USB device? So that it is connected to the computer that has the software? If yes, it makes it a bit easier, but I still
wonder if you feel that the ms access system is sufficient.

Just curious -- why does a church need to do finger print scans; store scans and compare fingerprint scans to existing records on entry to a church?

Sufficient? What is the underlying security concern?

They just need a computerised way of tracking attendance so as to keep up with technological advances, or they the fact that recent security bleaches in Religious institutions here in Kenya have led to trying to track who comes to your church.....whatever the case, I have been hired to make a system and my concern is the money so I will really appreciate any help concerning ability, viability and method of the finger print integration
