So i have this form that displays personnel information, and after gallons of blood, sweat, and tears (or an hour toying with it), i configured it so that you can type someones last name or social security #, and it displays the rest of their information.

Woo!

The problem is it screws up whichever field i am searching with. If i use last name, it throws names all around and whatnot, its crazy.

At first i thought i twasn't updating the social when i entered the last name, and vice versa, but that's not the case.

i'm at a loss.

anyone, anyone?

I dont get it...

Do you have seperate fields to search from or just 1 field in which you have name, type any name and click a find button?

Please be a little more specific... (it might be me?!)

Regards

the form diplays info from records from a table with fields A, B, C, D, E

fields A and D are represented with cbo's. The user selects an item from either list, and it updates all 5 fields with information from the selected record.

the problem is its screwing up my table. If i select the naem "BOX" from field A, it'll load the info, but then i switch back to the table and i now have "BOX" in a slot where the name "ALBRANDT" used to be. I realy haven't the slightest what's causing it so that's the most info i can give. it's like its overwriting fields in other records with the selected information.

But offcourse if your field A is bound to the table it will get updated when you click the combo box. Try creating an Unbound (not linked to your table: no control source in the properties window) combobox with the same code as the one you have now, that will work!

Happy to help

yes sir that works fine, but it doesn't update the cbox whenever i update the OTHER combo box.

ie i can 'serach' via box a and c, if i unbind them and search via a, c isn't updated, and vice versa.

You should now have 7 fields on your form A,B,C,D,E bound to the table (updatable)

S1 and S2 unbound (not updating the table) searchfields:
S1 for A
S2 for C

As S1 and S2 are not bound to the table they will not be updated. You might update S1 from S3 or vice versa from VBA but i dont know if thats what you want...
