GIVING POSITION IN EXAM

I have 100 students just finish their examination. I use MsAcces to record the marks. My problem is how to give position according to their Grade Point Average. I know by sorting it I can get it. But when I sort it by name, I lost the number. I want the position numbers to stay on in a field no matter how I sort the students. Can anyone out there help me.....
