Hello everyone - my name is Will, and I'm excited to be a part of this forum. I'm a seasoned Access pro, and by seasoned, I mean I was an developer for several years...10 years ago.
I've spent the last decade in the marketing field, and it's left me wrung out. I've got a wife and a 16 month old daughter now, and I need to get back into the IT field so I can send her to college some day - there's not a lot of money in the marketing game in South Jersey where I live.
Anyway, to get back in the game, I started picking up a bunch of little jobs here and there on Elance. The recruiters haven't really been calling my number, and the #1 suggestion I get is to do as much of these little jobs as you can to demonstrate relevant current experience. My skills haven't waned as much as I thought, and - WOW - the things you can do with 2010 that I couldn't do back when I was developing in 2000...what a difference!
I'm really, really excited to be getting back into software development, and I look forward to participating in these forums as I'm sure I will have many questions moving forward.
If anyone has any other advice on ways to make myself more marketable to recruiters/head hunters/hiring managers, I'm all ears. The sooner I can quit marketing, the better!
Thanks!
Will
