groupby in totals is killing me!

i got a report and i am trying to groupby a field called EMPLOYEE NAME. i know how this groupby works but for some reason access is forcing me to groupby a field called DATE. sounds like a simple problem but i am pulling this report by date so i can't delete the DATE field from the query. i don't know why does that happen. if anyone knows a solution please help me out here...my hairs are falling off my head at this point...thanks to all in advance.

In reports Access will group by your 1st selection first, 2nd selection, second and so on. Try having your first grouping by Employee. Failing this - there is something wrong within the setup. Can you send a sample.

oh my gosh. i figured it out. i just had to group by in the reports rather than query. ha ha..i was stressing on something that was right in front of my face. thanks carol for listening to my weird problems.
