handheld barcode wireless scanner

Hi
Does anyone know of a barcode scanner where you can scan item number and type quantum and have the result update an Access database? With lookup tables for item name, unit. Orders and emplyees?
Have had a look at grabba but software costs are high and users have different brand smartphones.
