I'm a newbie both to Access and to DB development. I got into this for multiple reasons, the simplest being that I work for a smalllish non-profit in a wretched economy and I was skirting the dangerous territory of becoming redundant at an age when that's really not a good thing. A dozen younger (and lower-paid) people could do what I did.
I saw a terrible need in our organization for multiple databases (until now everything has been a scrabbled-together conglomerate of Excel files and paper files), and my E.D. was right there with me on that. I see this, if I can get good at it quickly, as an opportunity to become less dispensible.
I've been at it since January, learning as much as I can as fast as I can, and developing a pilot DB for one of our programs in the organization as I learn. We see this fist DB as both an experiment and as a model for what I might then develop for other larger programs.
Having said that, I'm realy enjoying the process, and again, if I can get good at it, am imagining DB development as a possible retirlement income down the road a bit.
I've been lurking here looking for answers for a couple of months. Will no doubt post questions now from time to time. THanks, all!
