Hello,

I run some software which is powered by MS Access. Unfortunately the developer is no longer available. When I click a particular option I get a 'record is deleted' message and can't proceed.

I did look at Support at Microsoft which suggests In Access 2000, on the Tools menu, point to Database Utilities, and then click Compact and Repair Database....... I do this and then get

"Table 'TempMSysAccessObjects' Already Exists" message

At this stage I realised I was getting in a bit deep for my experience, so wondered if there were any MS Access specialists who could assist. I must confirm that I am not an access specialist but just wondered if there were any steps I could follow to repair this.

Any help appreciated
Thanks

First off I want to say I am in now way an Access Specialist

That being said.....

can you create a new database and import everything into that one.I think that it should fix your problem

Well the short answer is no, but I'm not afraid of having a go, which probably spells out how naive I am.

However I wonder if there is a more fundamental question now to be answered; having looked at the options in the application I can see one to 'compact and repair database' but not create one and also I note that Access is not listed within the MS Office programs.

Its possible that you have an access runtime program.

If you open up your program files on C: using windows explorer do you see it listed in there

I've just looked under c:\program files\microsoft office and there are a stack of further directories including office11 and office12 with further subdirectories. To (hopefully) avoid trawling through them all, what file name should I look for, for the Access executable?

are you running office 2007? if so you want to go into office12 and look for msaccess.exe

Did a global search on c: and found it under
c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\access runtime\office10

I've got Office 2003

yeah you only have the runtime version. you probably arent going to be able to make the changes that you need.

Not sure if this in any way indicates what I can and can't do but after a bit of playing around I found that I could tell windows to run this version of access except it said:
"Can't find the database you specified or you didn't specify a database at all. Specify a valid database name in the command line, and include a path if necessary" See attached screendump. Exasperatingly, you'll see (I hope) from the screendump that there is an option on the right to create a New Blank Database. However when I click on the OK button the application closes down.

Anyway I found the database I'm having problems with and its path and then included these on the Run command line and it brought up the screen I'd expect. Below is the full command I ran.

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Access Runtime\Office10\MSACCESS.EXE" "c:\Documents and Settings\Adrian\Desktop\OLD SalonEntry to copy salon address.mdb"

My question is has this all been a waste of time or is there anything else I could run or would copying the database make a blind bit of difference?

Thanks

also, don't know whether we could employ it but have Office 2007 on other PC which has full (as yet unused) copy of Access.

if it has a full copy you might be able to do what i was talking about on the other pc. Its worth a try anyways

Ok Ray, will give it a go, nothing to lose, many thanks for the advice
