I've written several simple databases succesfully but am now trying something a little harder and not sure if I'm missing the point somewhere. The database is a drawing management tool and the structure seems to be a job can have many drawings, drawings can have many revisions, revisions can have many issue transmittals, issue transmittals can have many companies, companies can have many staff and each recipient can have varying numbers of copies. Do I have to just keep creating the relationships carefully as I've done on simpler db's or am I on the wrong track.

You appear to be on the right track.

Each of the entities you named is a part of your business model, or so it appears. If you have a complex item in your model, the structure that reflects it will become correspondingly complex. You should expect this to be true for all real-world problems.

Stated another way, if your database is the map and your business is the territory, they should be equally simple or equally complex. Otherwise you have a poor map.
