Hi there,

Available from Access 2010 is the sample; "Desktop Product inventory database.accdb"

It contains some features I'd like to learn about and implement into my project but I can't access anything in design view. How do I change this?

I have tried and searched but nothing useful has come up.

Thank you,

Dan

Try opening the data base by holding down the Shift key and the enter key at the same time while the filename is highlighted. Don't use your mouse to open the file.

Tried and no joy unfortunately, thanks anyway.

One more idea. Open a new db. Import all the tables, fields, etc into the new db. With the new db open, see if you can open the design views. If you can, look for code that is shutting off the ability to see in design mode.

Tried that too, objects can't be pasted into the blank DB. There must be an easy way. :)

Have you tried looking at any VBA code to see if there is anything there? The Alt +F11 key should open the VBA window unless that has been locked down also. If that doesn't work, then I am out of ideas. If this is a MS designed template, you may want to try and contact MS. I'm at the office right now and only have AC 2003 available to me so I cannot try to open the db myself. Maybe someone else will come to the rescue.

Hvae you actually tried to, in the new db, to IMPORT objects from the old one, as per #4 ? Because "pasting" has nothing to do with that.

I just opened my copy of AC2010 and do not find a Desktop Product Inventory database. Where did you get it? Can you provide a link so that others may look at it and see what is the problem. Are you sure that the suffix is an .accdb and not something else.

Thanks for the tips, I shall try them later. The file is accessed via the "Small Business" folder in the Office.com templates.

Its not you. I found the db. It appears that it is designed to be used as an off the shelf template. MS has locked down the design view for all objects. It is macro driven and not very much VBA. I could not find any key to unlock this db so that you could in the words of the Wizard Of OZ--"Look behind the Curtain."
