How do you prevent null fields from creating blank space in report?

Hi once again

I have a report, with a subreport inbuilt.

In the subreport, there are null fields. They don't come out on the subreport, but they do create a 'blank space' so that there is a whole load of blanks before fields are returned.

Illustration:
NOTES (<---this is a label)
<BLANK> | <BLANK>
<BLANK> | <BLANK>
XYZ ltd | Notes etc etc
<BLANK> | <BLANK>
ABC Plc | More text goes here etc

I have tried setting the field height to zero, then CAN SHRINK/CAN GROW but this doesn't do the trick and I just have a whole load of wonky fields.

I have scoured these forums because I'm sure someone has had a similar problem but can't seem to find the solution.

Does anyone have any ideas? Help much appreciated!

Sussed it!

I put IS NOT NULL in the originating query in the field i didn't want to appear...
