what options do i have to connect to my database if back end of my db is in newyork and front end is in washington. how do i connect to my db??

Hi mohammadagul,

I suppose this all depends on the equipment used to connect to the internet. The equipment will vary the connection to the outside world from your BE. For ful bore secured office, you might consider servers, ISA Server, firewall, routers, VPN tunnels (to secure conections)? Depending on how secure your site is connected will depend on what equipment is required, varying the connection to your BE.

What type of connection do you have to internet at both sites? land line 56K, Broadband up to 24M, ISDN 64k, 128k, 256K? Here in Australia on Broadband we achive up to 24Mbits download but only 1 Mbit upload (this upload will govern your speed, as you will need to up load from BE (server/workstation?), not sure what type of connection you have?. The type of connection upload will govern your connection speed, so depending on type of connection will govern connection speed.

I suppose the optimimal way of doing this type of connection is to implement servers at both sites, read this link;

http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=103460

Although you are not international this still applies to WAN between your two sites.

With your connection in washington can you see your server where your database is in new york?

Look forward to some answers as very hard to answer completely without knowing what equipment you are using to connect to the internet and what security and/or encryption along with possible operating system certification you also employ for your internet connection, if aso done securely?
