i find that when i write several trailing periods (...) in my memo field they're not saved as such. could someone explain why not and if there's anyway around it?

The three periods are saved as an ellipsis. It is a single ASCII character #133.

The conversion from three periods to the ellipsis is caused by AutoCorrect.

Go to Tools|AutoCorrect, then select the appropriate entry for converting to the ellipsis and select Delete. That will keep the conversion from happening in the future.

A number of years ago, I created a table in Excel that renders all the displayable characters from 0 to 255. In fact, there are fewer than 10 that do not display.

To directly enter the ellipsis (…), for example hold down the Alt key and press 0133 on the numeric keypad of your keyboard.

I cannot guarantee that the chart I have will work for all languages, but it is accurate for English.

If you have Excel, you can place the formula =CHAR(a1) in cell B1 and a number between 0 and 255 in A1 to see the result. I do not know if there is an equivalent in Access.

I hope this helps. If not, let me know.
