How to set a Default Value for a Short Date Field

I've got a field in a table formatted as a Short Date. How to I set the Default Value to the Short Date designation for the current date? I've tried several differrent things and keep getting a "type mismatch" error.

Try:

=Date()

In the design view of your table.

Thanks, WayneRyan. I truied =Date, which doesn't work. But =Date() works like a charm!
