Hi -

Got into a rather combative exchange (most on my part, the OP was a wimp) with an OP who claimed s/he was trying to develop a by-month schedle. I got real assertive there towards the end.

Now, I discover the entire thread no longer exists. Checked for a nasty explanatory e-mail to no avail.

What's the policy/procedure here?

Bob

Maybe the OP decided to remove the thread? Not much you can do if you do not have additional contact info.

How annoying. Indeed, MSAR is correct that OP can delete threads, and I recall forum leaders giving that privileges to reduce the burden on mods from cleaning up after users who accidentally post more than once.

I believe it has been suggested before that only threads with no relies be deleted but the software does not support such distinction. If this remains the case, it may be best for us all that the privilege was taken away. (Besides, I can't think of any users who accidentally posted one too many thread and cleaned up after themselves... anyone?)

Don't forget about the ones who do it on purpose (for maximum coverage) and then proceed to answer on each thread. How confusing does that get?

Thanks All,

Though I was losing it (i.e, the OffenseOMeter has determined that you're really ugly and has thus ....)

Appreciate it,

Bob

They do that? Geez, wow.

I guess I just tune out those who cross post so I didn't really pay close attention.

Personally, I think the forum could use this feature where when a user with <50 posts start a new thread get this message:

"Posting in several different forums or duplicate posting is not just rude, it's also illegal. So, please do not even think about doing this. We know who you are, and the authorities will be notified when you do and we do permanently ban anyone who violate this simple rule. Welcome to Access World Forums!"

:D

I'm still really surprised that a knowledge-oriented site like this one permits users to delete threads. Removing this function and installing a few more mods would seem a much better solution.

I heartily agree. The forum certainly could benefit with few more moderators (not that those who already aren't doing great job; they are!!!) not only to help with deleting duplicates and clearing spams, but more importantly, to help users get help they need by editing the title or consolidating threads where appropriate.

And while we're on the subject, I have to ask... What the fsck are we doing with Tim Brewer. He's a spammer but we let him hang around and pollute the New Posts queue? I at first had fun because he was soo... out there, but seriously- that thread has been going on for months. I really think it should be locked up. That's one other thing I think we don't give enough consideration to; if we keep pushing old and long running threads in queue, it just means more noise to signal...

What the fsck are we doing with Tim Brewer. .

Rabbie had a good idea (today) that we just ignore him, and I have been for the longest time. Today, for some reason I decided to post on him again. That will be the last time I do that. It is however somewhat entertaining to read the banter between the other guys on this forum and his attempt to rebuttle (which by the way has not made a bit of sense to me).

Its to bad a mod cant close that thread!

I understand completely about the entertainment; the other forum I frequent occasionally has those threads where everyone make fun of the hapless spammer or some idiotic noob blithering about nonsense, but even the most funniest thread do get old, and eventually get locked so we can move on to new things. Tim was funny (even if he wasn't trying to be), but it got old. Let the thread die a peaceful death, mmmkay? :D
